Frequently Asked Questions

Will Opti-Cide damage surfaces?
Opti-Cide is safe to use on all surfaces common to healthcare facilities, the workplace, and public buildings. Opti-Cide has been tested on glass, metal, Plexiglas®, Formica®, plastics, baked-on painted surfaces, powder- painted coated surfaces, stainless steel, brass, chrome, copper, acrylic, glazed tile and vinyl. Opti-Cide can be used in all high-touch locations where cross contamination is a risk including athletic clubs, bathrooms, child care facilities, gyms, health clubs, healthcare facilities, hotels, institutional facilities, locker rooms, medical offices, work offices, prisons, schools, spas, transport equipment and athletic/training facility surface. Opti-Cide is good for use on high-touch objects like cabinets, counters, doorknobs, equipment surfaces, hospitality and hotel surfaces, keyboards, laminated surfaces, monitors, office fixtures, physical therapy equipment, telephones, toilets and walls.

Is Opti-Cide also good for cleaning?
Yes. Opti-Cide is an excellent cleaning solution. Disinfectants with high alcohol content (25% or more) make cleaning more difficult because alcohol tends to fix soils to surfaces. Opti-Cide has just the right amount of alcohol (21%) to help kill microbes and not inhibit cleaning. Surfaces must be cleaned before they can be disinfected. So, use one Opti-Cide wipe to clean before using a second to disinfect, or just clean using one side, then flip the wipe over to disinfect.

Why is it important that Opti-Cide is a “hospital grade” disinfectant?
Hospital Grade Disinfectants like Opti-Cide kill 100% of microscopic organisms listed on the label when applied as directed. Opti-Cide completely kills bacteria, virus, fungi and TB. In comparison, Sanitizers only kill bacteria, and not all bacteria, just 99.9% of certain microbes. And, sanitizers do not kill TB. Hospital Grade Disinfectants like Opti-Cide are a big step up in safety from Sanitizers that only reduce bacteria.

What is the difference between Opti-Cide and Opti-Cide RI?
Opti-Cide RI has added rust inhibitors.  For customers once using the Weiman branded Germicidal Solution to soak their surgical instruments, we would suggest using the Opti-Cide RI.  The Opti-Cide RI is intended for use first and foremost as a disinfectant instrument soak, whereas the Opti-Cide is a surface disinfectant and cleaner.
